Auburn Names Brick Plaza After Michael McCartney of McCartney Construction

Auburn University announced it will name the new Jordan-Hare Stadium Brick Plaza after long-time trustee and board member Michael B. McCartney.  The dedication will take place on Saturday, October 7th, when the Tigers take on the Arkansas Razorbacks.

McCartney, President of McCartney Construction Company in Gadsden, was a member of the AU Board of Trustees for 14 years, serving five as President Pro-Temp and was the chairman of the search committee that brought Pat Dye to Auburn as the new head coach in 1981.

"I'm honored and extremely humbled," McCartney said.  "I am very appreciative of the Board of Trustees, President Richardson and the Athletic Department for the trust they have placed in my family and myself.  This is truly a special honor."

Along with serving on the Auburn University Board of Trustees, McCartney has been very active in business-related organizations.  He served on the Board of the National Center for Asphalt Technology.  He is currently Chairman of the Alabama Road Builders Hall of Fame and the Alabama Engineers Hall of Fame.

He has also been the President of the Alabama Road Builders, the President of the Alabama Asphalt Pavement Association, and has served on the Board of Governors for the National Asphalt Pavement Association.
